As public demand keeps increasing, apps with taxi-tracking and taxi-booking functionalities have emerged at the right moment. With features like Global Positioning System (GPS) and Network positioning embedded in smart phones, taxi apps could be enhanced with comprehensive and powerful functionalities. In this project, a general model of an Android location-based taxi tracking and booking app was developed. This report represents the whole process through the design, planning and implementation stages of this Android app. Basic concepts of developing Android application were introduced. The construction of remote MySQL database is discussed and the handling of data between user interface and database using java is explained. Various third party APIs like Google Maps, Google GCM and apache http are integrated to implement the complete functionalities. In the end of this report, suggestions are provided for further development and customization of the existing application.
