Description
Summary:Reinforced concrete flat slab system has become an economical structural solution for most buildings because of its ease of construction (no difficulty in placement of formworks), less construction time, lower storey height and maximum freedom in architectural design There are numerous analytical models and punching shear provisions provided by different international standards to predict the punching shear strength of reinforced concrete flat slabs without shear reinforcement. This can lead to confusion while designing for punching shear in flat slabs. This study aims to evaluate and compare different codes and analytical models in predicting the punching shear strength of reinforced concrete slab-column connections without shear reinforcement. Database from several researches done in the past was collected and the test results were compared with the values predicted by the analytical models and design codes. The report focuses largely on assessing the reliability of Muttoni’s model to predict punching shear strength of reinforced concrete flat slabs without shear reinforcement and highlights its strength and limitations, besides analyzing the accuracy of other models and shear design codes.
