Summary: | Photocatalysis has attracted extensive attention in environmental engineering field since it is discovered in 1977. It has a great potential in reducing the air pollution problem as well as the ability to keep the whiteness of the buildings. Therefore, the addition of a photocatalyst such as Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) to ordinary building materials such as cementitious materials is desirable.
This paper presents an overview of the principle of TiO2 photocatalysis and the application in combination with Engineered Cementitious Composite (ECC) as well as the results of the laboratory research with respect to the evaluation of self-cleaning and air-purifying properties.
In addition, the use of Ground Granulated Blast-Furnace (GGBF) slag as a replacement of cement materials in white TiO2-ECC was also included in a part of this project to achieve a more cost-effectively and environmental friendly approach. |
