Analysis of mobile sources of air pollution

Air pollution is the introduction of harmful substances such as chemicals, particulate matter and biological agents into the atmosphere. There is a need to analyse the movement of air pollutants and concentrations in the affected area. This report focuses on the mobile sources of air pollution i...

There is a need to analyse the movement of air pollutants and concentrations in the affected area. This report focuses on the mobile sources of air pollution in Singapore. Mobile sources of air pollution are closer to people and they create high concentrations of emissions locally. Therefore, it is important to analyse the mobile sources of air pollution. Mobile sources are buses, cars, trucks, motorcycles, ships and aeroplanes. Air pollutants can be classified as primary and secondary. Primary pollutants are directly emitted from sources. Secondary pollutants are formed by chemical reactions in the atmosphere. The pollutants are emitted into or formed in the atmosphere in varying concentrations. Air quality models are useful to predict the dispersion of the air pollutants in different types of conditions and the chemical transformations of air pollutants in the atmosphere. They can predict the path of the dispersion of the air pollutants. They allow the regulators to formulate different control strategies to counter the air pollution problem.
