The wave generator is built in the laboratory to simulate the wave environment in the sea. In conjunction with another student’s project, this wave generator will be part of the ‘ocean wave energy to electricity’ harnessing machine. Background knowledge of ocean wave, designing process of the wave generator, manufacturing process and some recommendations for future alterations are discussed in this report. Design process is further divided into functional analysis, morphological chart and evaluation matrix. These are used to build up the design of the structure. Solidworks drawings and detailed calculations are also used to present the design process of the wave generator. The fabrication process includes material selection, machining process and assembly. The generator is tested for its ability to produce waves in the laboratory under different experimental parameters. By analyzing the experiment data collected, the capability of the generator is known. Recommendations for future projects are to enhance the current set-up and solve limitations.
