Summary:Paper based devices have been, in recent years, highly regarded as an area of huge potential. This potential is due to their potential applications and the variety of advantages that they offer. Literature and studies have shown the implications and costs associated with malaria in the world and diagnosis of malaria is a highly researched topic. In this project, fabrication of a paper-based device or method is being explored to meet the needs of a biomedical application such as malaria diagnosis. Various experiments and processes like centrifugation, Raman spectroscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) were conducted to meet the objective of this report. The results achieved show the capabilities of this paper based method of detecting malaria biomarkers at extremely low levels of concentration ranging from 10mM to 0.01mM. These results are comparable to current malaria diagnostic methods while having significant advantages.
