Description
Summary:Electric Vehicles are being adopted widely throughout the recent years due to the clean energy and sustainability concerns. With the concept of “Valley Filling and Peak Shaving”, more advantages are added into Electric Vehicles. It can help to stabilize the electric power grid during high load and low load period, thus it much profit to the current power grid infrastructure. This project aims to demonstrate this concept by building up a battery charging station mock-up to provide large flexibility for operating based on the concept. Firstly a battery charging station mock-up was built. Subsequently a data server and end-user program were set up and development. This equipped with basic needs for the users to monitoring the battery status such as State of Charge. Additional functions were included then, for real time grid electricity price provision, remote charging and discharging operation through controllable relay and etc. With the concern of mobility of the users, a SMS modem is also used to update the timely status of batteries. Lastly, some efficient algorithms for automatic decision making algorithm was discussed. The decisions are to charge the battery or discharge the battery base on the users’ needs, principle of profit maximization, electricity price and power demand.
