Description
Summary:In the academic year 2013/2014, I was attached to Singapore institute of manufacturing technology (SIMTech) to do the Final Year Project. During this period, I primarily did the experiments about amplifying and compressing 2 μm fiber laser. According to the study of the fibers dispersive and nonlinear effects to pulses, we wanted to generate high power ultra-fast fiber lasers. In this project, a mode locked fiber laser was used as seed laser. The seed laser pulses were transform limited; they were stretched by a piece of dispersion compensation fiber due to the dispersive effect. After that, the pulses were amplified and re-compressed by the thulium doped fiber which had opposite sign dispersion compared with the dispersion compensation fiber. This report summarizes the project of 2μm laser amplification and compression. It covers some optical knowledge that I have learnt during the final year project, the simulation of the pulse propagation and the experiments setup, and results.
