Summary: | The world is looking towards harnessing the computing power that is available and simulation of real life situations and technology is one of the ways that can empower the scientific and engineering community to gain a better understanding of their field and gain the ability to predict the behaviour of systems and objects. With this aim in mind, the project aimed to simulate the behaviour of LAN networks using switches to gain a better understanding of the Spanning Tree Protocol and Virtual LAN, which were previously taught to students in a lab environment with physical devices. This virtualisation of the lab was achieved by developing a web application on the ASP .NET platform using C#, a programming platform that provides a secure and sophisticated environment for developers. The web application developed was able to simulate the lab environment, enabling users to perform the lab experiments on the computer and understand the concepts intended to be conveyed. The application was designed with the capability to be modified or expanded in future. |
