Summary: | Different synthesis of Li3V2(PO4)3 were performed and characterisation, as well as electrochemical studies, of the materials obtained have been done and reported in this work. Three different methods, namely solid state synthesis, sol-gel synthesis and insitu polymerisation, have been used to produce Li3V2(PO4)3 as cathode material for lithium ion batteries, and the effect of synthesis method on the electrochemical performance has been studied.
The morphology and chemical compositions were studied using scanning electrode microscope (SEM) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD). Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and galvanostatic charge discharge studies, in half-cell configuration (vs. Li) was used to analyse the electrochemical behaviour of Li3V2(PO4) as cathode material for lithium batteries .
The highest capacity was obtained from Li3V2(PO4) synthesized via solid state reaction with the specific capacity of 80 mAh g-1. Recommendations have been made in the last section of the report to further improve the synthesis as well as the performance of Li3V2(PO4)3 for lithium ion batteries. |
