Summary: | Gold nanoparticles (GNPs) are stable noble metal nanoparticles that exhibit properties such as surface plamon resonance (SPR) and other optical properties that make them suitable for use in biological applications such as biosensors and therapy. By using the bottom-up approach and introducing self-assemble monolayers (SAMs) to different sized GNPs, it will stabilize the particles in biological environments. GNPs of sizes 5nm and 15nm were capped with SAMs consisting of a Mix-matrix, a ligand mixture of H- CVVVT-ol and H-C11-EG4. The 5nm GNP was mono-functionalized with polyhistidine while the 15nm GNP was functionalized with NTA, and was mixed to allow for conjugation to form dimers. The particles were visualized under the transmission electron microscope. The structures were visible and could be differentiated by their size. Higher concentrations of nanoparticles should be used for better yield of dimers. The significance of this achievements allows us to understand that 1) These structures can be formed with nanoparticles of different sizes 2) Different material can be used i.e. Silver, Quantum Dots by stabilizing it with SAM. |
