Description
Summary:Mobile cranes are extremely valuable heavy-duty vehicles in many engineering applications due to their versatility - that is having the ability to lift extremely heavy loads and yet, travel around like any other vehicle. However, one of the biggest disadvantages is its sheer size with respect to civilian road which makes it hard to maneuver around especially in crowded cities. An effort to develop a simulator platform to aid in the planning of operations has been ongoing for several months now in NTU and has proved to be partially successful. However, the greatest problem would be the lengthy development time required to produce accurate crane models for use. This report presents the development of a new concept system that is targeted at solving this problem through a 3-stage approach that covers understanding the traditional modeling approach up to the proof of concept of the modular family product-based design and limited production. The results indicate a dramatic reduction in development time and can the concept can be considered a success. However given the relatively new introduction of such a concept, there are still much more studies that can be done in future as indicated in the recommendation section
