Description
Summary:The purpose of this project is to study the mechanical properties of Hysol EA9396 and perform finite-element simulations using experimental results. The experiment conducted was the three-point bending test. Bending tests yield load vs. deflection data, and through further calculation, parameters such as flexural stress vs. strain were found. Using this data, the mechanical properties, namely the elastic modulus and the maximum stress of the material were found by studying the stress-strain curves. Furthermore, the tests were repeated at different temperatures and strain-rates to study their effect. The project also observed creep properties of the material and attempted to characterise properties using time-temperature superposition theorem. After experiments, the elastic moduli were used to create material models in ABAQUS (FE Software) to simulate the bending tests. Comparisons were made with test results to verify the model’s accuracy. In conclusion, this project collected valuable information and understanding about the material’s properties and successfully modelled it in ABAQUS, providing the potential for expanded scope in simulation.
