However, H2S releasing compounds extracted from plants are neither stable nor in high enrichment. Hence, people are paying attention to artificially synthesized H2S donors, which may have potential medicinal value. Based on the current structures of some natural products, we developed a series of novel H2S releasing compounds and studied their structure activity relationship. In this report, we modified natural amino acid, sugar and reported effective H2S releasing compounds. Release of H2S from the synthesized compounds into solution was examined with methlyene blue method and using fluorescent probe; anti-cancer activity in cell was characterized by crystal violet staining. Among all the synthesized compounds, thiosugar and allylic disulfide are able to release H2S continuously for more than one week. In addition, thiosugar can selectively kill MCF7, MB231, SKOV3 and shows low toxicity to non-cancer cells.
