In simple terms, the algorithm developed has the ability to track the source of sound. This dissertation is an attempt to adopt this application into an Android based system. Since Android based systems are being widely used for a myriad number of applications and by a much larger population than the users of stand-alone electronic gadgets, adapting acoustic source localization to perform in this environment opens up flexibility and also accessibility to a larger audience. By bringing the algorithm to successfully perform on a Java based platform, this dissertation aims to bridge the gap between purely electronic implementations and the software based imple-mentations using the limited hardware available in an Android device.
