Description
Summary:Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanotube has been demonstrated to be one of popular material in many research areas. In this work, different types of TiO2 nanotubes have been successfully fabricated by changing organic electrolyte composition. Nanotubes with large diameter (~680 nm) and nanotubes with double-walled structures have been achieved. Two different applications were explored using TiO2 nanotube structures and its composites: bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) delivery and photocatalytic for water purification. For the application on protein delivery, TiO2 nanotubes with different morphologies, tube diameters and tube length were fabricated and investigated for their influence on BMP-2 delivery. The results prove that TiO2 nanotube could be proper candidate for high loading capacity and release controlled carrier of BMP-2. The second application is on photocatalysis for water purification. Various TiO2 nanotube and TiO2-carbon composite with 3D structures (TiO2 nanotube– CNT, 3D Graphite – TiO2 coating and CNT – TiO2 coating) were fabricated and tested for their photocatalytic properties in water purification. Both double-walled TiO2 nanotube and TiO2-carbon composite have showed big improvement on photocatalytic efficiencies.
