Summary: | Preparing and doing well for the examination is what parents, educators and students are usually concerned about. As an old saying goes, “Practice makes perfect” - at the start of a new school year, or even before the start – during the holidays, parents will be bringing their child to book stores to shop for assessment books as well as to better prepare them for the upcoming mid-year and end-of-year examinations. The Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) is a National Examination in Singapore that usually takes place towards the end of the year which a Primary 6 student is required to take in order to get promoted to Secondary Level. Students are tested in the following subjects: English, Mathematics, Science and Mother Tongue. With so many subjects to be revised before the examinations, parents and educators always look for the fastest and most efficient approach to better prepare and equip the students to face whatever challenges that will be present in the examinations.
Due to this trend, the demand for finding an intelligent way in preparing for the upcoming examination is increasing. Most Information Technology companies seize this opportunity to invest in the Education Industry by building software applications that utilize state-of-the-art technologies to make revision more efficient.
Hence, this project aims to develop a web-based learning application that helps Primary 6 students to better prepare for the English Language Paper 1, mainly a test of a student’s creativity and writing of a good composition. The application will use the “Standard PSLE English Composition Questions” from assessment books as the main source of information for extracting useful words used that are associated with a specific question, and identifying knowledge needed to attempt questions through thematic searches and finding similar creative plots. Learning tools are also available to help users in terms of writing a good composition. Other users of the system can also review solutions of attempted questions by other users. Dataset consists of questions and answers in text and images. |
