Summary: | In this technology and information age, Global Positioning System (GPS) plays an important role in the daily life of most people. However, there are some limitations in GPS since it is not available for indoor areas such as hospitals, schools and shopping centers. Therefore, the alternative solution for positioning in the indoor environment is Indoor Position System (IPS). IPS use magnetic positioning, radio technology and wireless technology to locate and position objects in indoor environment.
This Final Year Project is basically building an indoor positioning system dedicated for visual impaired personnel to locate their desired destination easily via voice command enabled interface. Research on RFID technology has been gone through and other technologies such as Bluetooth technology and android technology are studied to utilize in the system.
The implementation of the Indoor Navigation System includes finding the appropriate hardware, in this case, RFID tags and readers and android tablet. An android application is developed to position the tag locations and voice recognition system is added in the app for visually impaired people to navigate easily by voice. The communication between Android application and RFID hardware is via Bluetooth.
All in all, an Indoor Navigation System is designed and implemented based on RFID technology with an objective of navigating efficiently in the Indoor environment such as hospitals and elderly care centers to fulfill the needs of visually impaired personnel. |
