The development of this Web-Based E-Learning Portal for VLSI Systems follows the waterfall model, a common and popular model used in most software development process. This model consists of 6 different stages; project initial stage, project design stage, project implementation stage, project integration stage, project testing stage and project improvement stage. As technology advances, students nowadays do not need to travel to school or wait for their lecturer in order to learn. They can now do so in the comforts of their home, their own time and at any place as long they have the use of the Internet. They no longer need to be afraid of uncertain conditions that will prevent them from going to school. These unpredictable conditions could be from the recent haze in Singapore to virus outbreak like H1N1, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), and Ebola. The main development tools for the architecture of this Web-Based E-Learning Portal are Macromedia Flash 8 and Macromedia Dreamweaver 8. By creating a web based E-learning platform, students will be able to avoid those unpredictable circumstances. They will be able to prepare ahead for the classes that they are going to learn about, or even learn by themselves if the school is closed. Students will be able to be more efficient and flexible in using their time, resulting in increased productivity and efficiency.
