This detection of movement patterns will take care of their well-being and mitigate potential dangers that they may face in their daily lives effectively. Moreover, existing indoor localization systems that provide indoor tracking functionalities nowadays are generally costly. In this project, the Indoor Mobile Tracking System (IMTS) on direction determination is developed to track the elderly movement. Some of the sensors used are accelerometer that detect movement status and magnetometer sensor which serves as a compass. Analysis is performed based on the data collected from selected Android embedded sensors to examine the behaviour and test for errors. A Samsung Galaxy S5 embedded with sensors is used as the client device carried by the user. The device is able to detect the changes in direction and movement patterns made by the elderly by strapping at different parts of the body namely, strapping around the neck, wrist and arms to a certain level of accuracy. Testing was carried out to verify the functionalities and feasibility of the Indoor Mobile Tracking System (IMTS) within a room of approximate dimension of 21.5m by 21.5m. This IMTS provides real time display and updates of the user movement with estimated distance. This system is able to gain more information of the user movement pattern.
