Description
Summary:In view of the need to teach students to manage the overflow of information in this Information Age, the study has concentrated on exploring the factors that affect the evaluation and selection of information sources by a group of undergraduates at Nanyang Technological University. 42 first-year undergraduates from the Information Technology and Society course (January - April 1997) offered by the School of Applied Science/Division of Computing Systems undertook an exercise that required them to assess the usefulness of a given set of journal citations to their group project. The exercise was given out in the form of a questionnaire and data from the exercise were analysed to assess the impact of nature of topic, information need and the amount of information on the students' evaluation and selection.
