Summary: | This project was conducted to evaluate the variation of water content coupled with anatomical directions on the Young’s modulus, compressive yield stress and yield strain of tropical swine cancellous bones through mechanical testing. At 1% significance level, it was found that in the frontal anatomical direction, the Young’s modulus and compressive yield strength increased while the yield strain decreased as the water content of the bones was reduced. As for the transverse direction, only the Young’s modulus increased while the compressive yield strength and yield strain remained the same as the water content of the bones was reduced. And for the sagittal anatomical direction, there were no differences in the mechanical properties assessed between the samples. Thus, varying the water content had a mixture of effects on the mechanical properties of the swine cancellous bones, depending on the anatomical directions selected. |
