Summary: | Optical deposition using carbon nano-tubes (CNTs) on an optical fiber with multi-mode interference can be used as an optical sensor. With the unique advantages of the optical fibers and CNTs, optical sensor based on single-mode fiber has been widely used. Optical deposition of CNTs on optical fiber helps to improve the sensitivity of the fiber, such that it can react at a faster speed under different environment. In this project, various length of multi-mode fiber (MMF) is spliced on the single-mode fiber (SMF) to determine the most suitable length for deposition to occur. With the MMF as the fiber end, it is deposited in the CNT solution. The spliced MMF-SMF is exposed to various environments by changing the refractive index (RI) of the solution to investigate on the sensitivity of the fiber. |
