Summary: | Online Assessment systems are becoming more and more popular to be utilized by many institutions in the world. Many benefits can be enjoyed by both institution and their students, such as low expense and resource needed, immediate feedback and result, and flexibility. However, one of the biggest drawbacks is that as it is not a face-to-face assessment, students may use extra resources when they are taking the assessments, and this is most of the time not allowed. Therefore, there is a need for the development of a secure web browser to complement the online assessment system.
The secure browser aims to enhance learning activities of students by improving the assessment’s security. The basic features that the secure browser has to offer are:
1. Locking the screen, which when the secure browser is run, it can be closed only when the assessment ends. During so, the secure browser should prevent user from minimizing it and closing it.
2. Flexibility, which the secure browser should not increase the overall complexity of having an online assessment system. Distribution of the application and way of using it should be as simple as possible.
3. Compatibility, which the secure browser should run at as many operating systems as possible. Running on Windows is a highest priority since the implementation of the secure browser is firstly done at a Windows environment.
4. Configurable, which the secure browser’s security feature should be able to be configured as the administrator wishes.
5. System Checking, which the secure browser should monitor the system’s activities during the assessment. One important thing to check is running processes.
In the end of the project, eLITS Secure Browser has been proposed and delivered to complement eLITS Learning Management System in enhancing online learning activities. The secure browser provides System Profiling, Browser Authentication, and System Logging in addition to the basic features required. |
