These polymers have essentially the same chemical structure and molecular weight but with different degree of ethoxylation in the hydrophobic macromonomer. The polymer is a class of hydrophobically modified polyelectrolyte system and it has been commonly given an acronym HASE. Studies on dilute solution properties show that HASE systems obey the classical Huggins and Kraemer expression. However, the conductivity studies show that the intrinsic viscosity and Huggins coefficient measurements are sensitive to the ionic strength of the solution at each successive dilution.
