论南洋理工大学孔子学院的本土化与社会功能 = A study of Confucius Institute, Nanyang Technological University’s localisation and social function

近年来因为中国的崛起，越来越多人关注着中国的经济发展以及华语这个语言及其文化。汉办和世界各地多所大学合作开办的孔子学院对于想要学习基础华语和了解中华文化的外国人有着一定的帮助。新加坡虽然也有孔子学院，但是情况就比较特殊。因为新加坡的华人占大多数，懂得基础华语的人也比较多，所以新加坡唯一一所孔子学院–南洋理工大学孔子学院做出了相对应本土化的工作以适应新加坡的环境。虽然也有提供基础华语的课程与教材，南洋理工大学孔子学院更多的是强化与提升学员们的华语程度。不管是基础华语或是强化的课程与教材，甚至是华语教学的文凭课程都有着它们各自的功能，对于社会都有着非凡的贡献。因为没有人对于南洋理工大学孔子学院做过研究，本论文将借助与南洋理工大学孔子学院的现任院长，梁秉赋博士的访谈了解此学院的现状和其他相关的资料，以及他的一些看法和观点。Due to the rise of China in recent years, more and more people are not only becoming more concerned about China’s economy, but the Chinese Language, Mandarin and Chinese culture as well. Hanban and universities worldwide have worked together to open Confucius Institutes around the world to aid more people in learning basic Chinese language as well as its culture. Although Singapore also has its own Confucius Institute, it is one that is rather different and special as compared to the other countries. Besides having a large part of Singapore’s population consisting of Singaporean Chinese, many people who reside in Singapore have the capability to converse and use basic Chinese as well. As such the only Confucius Institute in Singapore – Confucius Institute, Nanyang Technological University (CI-NTU) made localisation efforts to adapt to the special situation in Singapore. Although there are still some courses and materials made available to basic Chinese learners, more of the courses are catered to Singaporean Chinese and others who have a basic knowledge of Chinese residing in Singapore. What they learn are more of strengthening and improving their current Chinese standards. Regardless of which type of course (Basic Chinese, Strengthening Chinese or Chinese Language Teaching courses) learners signed up for, they each have their own function and contribution to the society as a whole. As no prior research has been done regarding CI-NTU in Singapore, this thesis is completed with the help of interviewing Dr. Neo Peng Fu, the current Director of CI-NTU, on the current status and more information of the institute, as well as some of his personal views on this institute.
