田流剧作研究 = A study of Tian Liew's plays

He bore a strong personal conviction regarding the creation of plays, believing that the theatre arts should not only be a form of entertainment, but also, through the reflection of reality, educate and enlighten audiences. Therefore, the themes in Tian Liew’s plays are mostly derived from the happenings of daily life. Through the storylines and crafting of characters, his plays aim to trigger audiences into deeper thoughts and self-reflection. This thesis focuses on the study of thirteen of Tian Liew’s plays, grouping them into the categories of negative exposure and positive influence based on his personal conviction, analyzing each play individually for their themes. Apart from categorizing these thirteen plays, this thesis will also highlight some of the plays that correspond to parts of Singapore’s history. |
