几米的“寂寞文学” = Jimmy Liao's "Solitary literature"

本文通过研究台湾现代绘本作家几米（本名廖福彬）的作品讨论贯穿其中的“寂寞”与“追寻”主题。虽然入行已40岁，但几米从1998年至今所出版的作品高达44本，成绩斐然。几米绘本为成人读者而作，其创作更开启成人绘本风潮，刮起“几米现象”的旋风。本文按故事内容把寂寞分为“没有知音”、“爱与思念”及“冷漠都市”三大种类，并适时结合其人生经历阐述主题，表现几米与笔下“小人”的内在连接性。自称心里住着小孩的几米喜欢使用超现实画境及儿童视角作画，因此，故事主角往往是天真活泼的小孩及拟人化的动物。通过讨论主题及所使用的叙述与创作手段，本文试图归纳几米所要传达的信息及其成功背后的原因。Through analyzing the works of Taiwanese author-illustrator Jimmy Liao, this thesis discusses the underlying themes of “loneliness” and “pursue” that encompasses his creations. Despite only embarking on his career at the age of 40 in 1998, he has since published 44 books. His illustrations are done with adult readers in mind instead of children, pioneering the wave of adult illustrated books and resulting in a Jimmy Liao phenomenon.According to the book’s content, this thesis divided the theme “loneliness” into three different categories, namely “Lack of an understanding party”, “Love and longing” and “Cold and unconcerned city”. During suitable conjunctions, links will be made to Jimmy’s life experiences to display the inner connectivity between author and fictional characters. Jimmy, who claims to have a child living within him, likes to portray stories from a surreal or children’s perspective, hence giving rise to frequent usage of lively and innocent children and the anthropomorphism of animals. Via discussions regarding the choice of themes, methods of narration and artistic penchants used, this thesis attempts to conclude the fundamental message that Jimmy wishes to express and the reasons behind his success.
