论颜回之“乐”中实践性的境界 = A study on practical happiness realm of Yan Hui

The concept of “Happiness” (乐le) first appeared in “Lun Yu”(论语,lunyu)and was one of the subject of talks by “Kongzi” and “Yanhui”. Since Yanhui was Kongzi’s disciple, he would have inherited Kongzi’s knowledge and thoughts. Therefore, they had many similarities in their ideology theories which allowed them to be put together and known as “Kong Yan Zhi Le” (孔颜之乐,kongyanzhile). However, the continuous usage of the vague term “Kong Yan Zhi Le” (孔颜之乐,kongyanzhile)by “Song Ru” (宋儒,songru)as a generalisation, has not only hidden the concept of “Yan Zi Zhi Le”(颜子之乐,yanzizhile), but also led to the “Happiness” (乐le)concept of Confucianism come into a standstill situation. With regards to this, this thesis is going to make use of “Song Ru” (宋儒,songru)’s “Kong Yan Zhi Le” (孔颜之乐,kongyanzhile)to highlight and draw attention to the neglected “Yan Zi Zhi Le”(颜子之乐,yanzizhile)ideological contents. The reason being although Kongzi did talk about “Happiness” (乐le), he did not see it as a Confucians’ proposition. Yanhui is the one who put high significance to the concept of “Happiness” (乐le), thus resulted in “Song Ru” (宋儒,songru)’s great attention and deep inquiry of the “Happiness” (乐le) concept. Thus, this is saying that there will only be “Kong Yan Zhi Le” (孔颜之乐,kongyanzhile)when there is “Yan Zi Zhi Le”(颜子之乐,yanzizhile)Hence, Yanhui is the representative of the Confucian’s “Happiness” (乐le) ideology. Therefore, the topic of this thesis will be focusing on “Yan Zi Zhi Le”(颜子之乐,yanzizhile) ,paying close attention to Yanhui’s uniqueness which is his practical realm and from this, highlight his distinct “Happiness” (乐le) concept. Thus, this would help in understanding Yanhui’s practical happiness realm, hence resulting in Confucians’ “Happiness” (乐le) ideology can have somewhat developments and breakthroughs.
