华校生群体一直是英培安作品中的关注对象。对同样出身华校的英培安而言，华校生在重英轻华的新加坡社会中不如英校生来得优越，生活中又必须面临诸多挑战，因此对于华校生的怜悯情结贯穿于多数作品中。英培安至今出版了五部长篇小说，无一不围绕华校生主题进行叙述，其中又以不同时代背景的华校生为多方视角切入探讨，进而体现因华校生身份无法逃离挫败人生的困境。本文将视角锁定英笔下华校生的失败人生与精神阉割的困境，将范围扩大至英所出版的五部长篇小说，提供全面性的概括，以示华校生这一身份所不可避免的多重边缘遭遇。此外，本土写实的记叙也贯穿于英培安的小说作品中，对新加坡的缅怀如同存在着投射于末代华校生的关爱，从而使得本土历史面貌与华校生的故事得以透过文字传承下去。 The Chinese-educated community has always been the greatest concerned of Yeng Pway Ngon’s work. Being a Chinese-educated himself, Yeng is sentimentally attached to the Chinese educated community in relation to the challenges they face in the society of Singapore where the Chinese educated are deemed inferior to that of the English educated elites. The five full-length novels which Yeng has published are all narrating on the Chinese-educated from different aspects and era, with mostly all sharing the same fate as failures in life due to their respective Chinese-educated identity. This thesis seeks to examine the encounters of the Chinese-educated under the narration of Yeng. It is also intended to provide a comprehensive analysis of all the five full length novels with respect to the threat of failure in life and mental castration in which the Chinese-educated community is exposed to. In addition, the retention of nostalgic bygone era of Singapore is also an important highlight in Yeng’s novels，serving the intention of the reminiscent of both Singapore and the Chinese- educated community.
