本文将会探讨马来亚制片组（Malayan Film Unit 简称 MFU）的成功之道。此文首先将会介绍该组的背景与理念。MFU拥有着商业性电影公司以及马来亚联邦政府机关的双重功能，因此，其成功之道不只局限在影视方面而已。本文将会把MFU的成功之道分为两种。第一种是通过MFU对电影事业的贡献来体现该组的成功之道。笔者再进一步地把MFU对电影事业的贡献分为两类。首先是MFU拥有当时成功的组织结构与管理，该组通过与其他的电影组分享经验，协助他国建立自己的摄影组。MFU也摄制了拥有国际水准的教育性短片，MFU通过参与国际性电影节与其他国际电影组分享，互相学习。MFU也在马来亚邦内免费租借该组影片以及向私人电影公司提供代工服务，提升马来亚邦内的影视素质和培养当地人才。第二种的是朝向国家建设的成功之道。MFU的纪录片中记录了马来亚的发展与当地独特的文化，马来亚联邦同时也通过MFU的纪录片来教育民众。在马来亚紧急状态期间，MFU也成为了反共政府的宣传反共思绪的机器。本文将会以1949年至1963年间所出版的《南洋商报》报刊为研究范围，从中搜集和分析有关MFU的新闻报导。报刊都是历史现场的第一手资料，富有高准确度。This article will investigate the ways of how Malayan Film Unit (aka MFU) became successful. The background and ideology of the Malayan Film Unit will firstly be introduced. The film unit has a unique identity where it is both a commercial film company and a government agency, allowing its success to not only be limited to the film industry. Its way of success will be further looked upon in two categories, which are the film industry and nation-building. Firstly, MFU’s success can be embodied through its contribution to the film industry, which can be further divided into its organisational structure and filming techniques. Boasting a successful organisational structure, the unit shared its methods with countries that are trying to form their own film unit. The unit also produced world-class standard educational short films and participated in international film festivals, where film groups get to share their own knowledge and learn from each other. Within Malaya, MFU rented their films free of charge to its people and provided multiple services to local film companies, in hopes of improving local films and attracting talents into joining the efforts to have a better film scene. Secondly, the MFU’s success towards nation-building is shown through the recording of the nation’s changes and unique local cultures. Besides these, the educational films filmed by the unit are frequently used to educate its people. During State of Emergency period, MFU became an important medium to propagate anti-communist idea within the nation. This article will collect and organise first-hand information regarding MFU from Nanyang Siang Pau, in the period of 1949 to 1963 as the main area of study.
