Description
Summary:This research aims to look into the issue of households' food wastes as a consequence of food-related social practices. This study seeks to dispel the notion that households' food wastage is solely a consequence of the wasteful attitudes and behaviors of consumers in a developed countries (Singapore), by exploring how the elements within social practices results in food wastes within households. Discrepancy in food-related practices, the need to have "proper" meals and the prioritization of food safety over wastage reveal the complexity of elements within social practices playing huge roles in contributing to household's food wastes. Thus, it is myopic to attribute the sole responsibility to one's attitudes and behaviors and calls for the attention to be shifted to the social practices surrounding food in households in studies and policy making.
