The motivation behind the study is the lack of quantitative data on such indirect or intangible costs. The Contingent Valuation Model (CVM) has been adopted to examine the price of such a non-market good via its demand. It is revealed that the nuisance cost incurred by non-smokers increases with each marginal unit of cigarette smoked. The research findings were gathered during a one-month period from 5 January 2015 – 6 February 2015 at various premises around Singapore. The benefit of not having to endure the nuisance cost caused by the first unit of cigarette smoked has been valued at $4.96.
