Summary: | In place of the usual pin code or pattern, smartphones have started to experiment with biometric login techniques, through the use of fingerprint sensors and cameras. In this project, an alternative login method based on inertial sensors (accelerometer and gyroscope) is investigated. Using such technology, smartphones can be unlocked simply by shaking the right way. The purpose of this project is to create an application for the Android platform, so that Android phones can set an alternate login that uses inertial sensors. The mechanics of accelerometers and gyroscopes will be researched on intensively to ensure login reliability. The result is a new application named “The Shaker”. This application enables users to shake their smartphones in a pre-set motion to unlock them. It will be a viable application in the market and recommended to be integrated inside the lock settings of every smartphone. |
