Summary: | The history of audiobooks is long and dated, and new features of audiobooks have always been developed as the market is expanded and technology advances. It has gone a long way, from normal cassette tapes which were more suited to the visually impaired, to that of portable digital audiobooks for busy commuters. Whispersync is a form of audiobook coupled with subtitling, a combination of these two creations. Both inventions have advantages and disadvantages, and by adding them together, it minimizes the limitations and increases the benefits. This is what Whispersync is about. It is an extremely convenient tool for users as it can alternate between reading and listening. This project aims to develop an android application which will resemble Whispersync, and has the main function of being able to highlight the word on the text which is being played out by the audio. This project may develop further in the future, where more unique features will be added to make this application stand out in the android market. The report will start off with the history of audiobooks and subtitling, and then followed up with the development of Whispersync in this project. It will look into possible improvements of the android application and summed up in the end. |
