Web forums are popular cyber places where the online community congregates to share comments and opinions about their experiences and feelings. Therefore, much data is being shared over the internet, allowing others to read and participate. This project will explore the use of Data Mining techniques to extract and analyse information from the forum. The targeted forum is a local parenting forum, particularly discussing about Gynecologists and child birth experiences. The project intents to rate the Gynecologists and doctors on their practices and service standards through the comments posted in the forum. A system is developed, with two main components. One is to handle raw data while the other is to manipulate processed data. As part of a data mining application, web crawling techniques and data extraction methods from HTML pages are explored and implemented within the system. Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques are also researched and implemented for the analysis of comments, determining the rating of the doctors. And lastly, the information is presented to everyday users, so that they may use the system with no difficulty through a Web Application. This project will greatly aid potential parents in their choice of doctors for their child’s delivery.
