In addition, 30% of these patients were diagnosed with diabetes before the age of 40. Therefore, our objective was to promote awareness about diabetes to young adults in Singapore so as to educate and encourage them to adopt a healthy lifestyle that could potentially prevent the onset of this disease. The specific aim of our project was to use printed posters and online social media to reach out to our target community. The posters emphasized on introduction, symptoms, diagnosing, treatment, prevention and common myths of diabetes. This allowed the readers to gain essential knowledge about the disease and adopt suggested preventive measures. The posters were displayed for a period of one month at various locations in Nanyang Technological University, School of Biological Sciences, Singapore Polytechnic and Republic Polytechnic. Furthermore, posters were also posted on the “Are U Aware? Diabetes Facts” Facebook page to extend the reach of these posters and gain more viewership. An online survey was then conducted to assess the effectiveness of the posters. 97% of the survey respondents indicated that the posters have equipped them with the necessary information about diabetes.
