In line with the government's efforts to promote entrepreneurship in Singapore, a study on entrepreneurship in an industry which the authors are familiar with is opportune. This study looks at the entrepreneurs who set up their own CPA firms in Singapore. The study begins by identifying the factors which motivated these individuals to view entrepreneurship as an alternative career path. The qualities and skills required of a successful entrepreneur are also identified. An attempt is also made to describe the general characteristics of local CPA firms. The bulk of this study focuses on the various problems faced by the local CPA firms both at entry level and operational level. In response to these problems, possible solutions and recommendations are suggested. The responses to the questionnaires and interviews form the findings upon which the analysis and conclusions are based. It is hoped that this study can provide information to the aspiring entrepreneurs and to encourage other individuals. to enter into the entrepreneurial career. In addition there is currently little research conducted on individuals who set up their own CPA firms in Singapore. It is hoped that this study can serve as a catalyst to spark off more research in this area.
