Summary: | In recent development of science and engineering, Digital Image Correlation (DIC) has been found to be a convenient and powerful way to evaluate displacement in various measurement tasks. There are a few outstanding algorithms in both academic aspects and industrial fields, which have been continuously refined and enhanced, showing high performance and accuracy. However, most of the algorithms are running on a desktop or workstation system, making them inconvenient to utilise from a mobile computation- enable device such as a mobile phone or a tablet. This report will discuss the design and implementation process on an iOS (Apple’s mobile device operating system) application that takes the advantage of a well-developed DIC algorithm on PC platform and transforms it into an elegant mobile application, based on the powerful Cocoa Touch framework and Xcode, the integrated development environment, provided by Apple. This report also provides the performance metrics for the algorithm running on the mobile devices, namely an iPhone 5S, an iPad Air 2, and an iPad mini 2. Finally, a summary of the feature highlights, limitations and future improvements will be given as well. |
