Description
Summary:The present study investigated the effectiveness of Anti-Doping Policies among current national athletes and sports officials in Singapore. 113 current national athletes and sport officials with mean age of 24.4 ± 7.1 years participated in this study. Participants filled up a questionnaire, which included measures on knowledge, awareness and perception towards anti-doping. A study description and informed consent were provided in accordance with university guidelines prior to survey administration. Knowledge score is high with 38.9% obtaining full marks and 100% passes. However, 36.9% of participants have no involvement in any anti-doping procedure, awareness has to be spread through effective medium like the internet. Majority of participants have the right perception towards doping and anti-doping policies. It is to note that high knowledge score does not correlate to positive perception. Perception towards doping can be easily influenced by the environment one is in therefore Anti-doping Singapore needs to be quick to intervene with any doping activities to maintain a positive environment for sports culture to flourish. Future studies can further examine the knowledge, awareness and perception of non-competitive athletes and compare the difference in results.
