Description
Summary:“Keep Mum” is a short film about a husband, Shen, who is verbally and physically abused by his wife. Their two young daughters also suffer indirectly from the abuse. Shen does not speak up nor defend himself because of his love for his family, and silently takes in the insults from his wife as well as striving to provide for his family a more comfortable life. This film deals with the marginalised group of men who suffers from such abuse. It is an issue that many choose not to believe exists, primarily because it is controversial, and even somewhat embarrassing. Society is far more accepting when the husband is the abuser and the wife is the abused. However, Annette Lee, the director, daringly explored such a topic and reveals the stress and trauma a husband goes through in a realistic manner. Through this film, we aim to show that such is a reality and spousal abuse occurs to both genders. As the director of photography for “Keep Mum”, my aim is to follow the style of the director as closely as possible in keeping the film real and honest. As this is a drama portraying real life issues, my job is to create visuals that are believable and true. In the report, I will talk about the pre-production, production, and post-production of the film in detail.
