Summary: | Ra Bam Yuk Mai actually means a new age to traditional. Because I am using traditional music and traditional cultures of Thailand and converting to mine own style thus deriving the name itself. The idea that inspires me on mine fyp actually consists of three things cells, doodles and Thai culture. Why would I include these three things as an inspiration because of three reasons. One studying of cells has been associated with mine past experience. The fun of watching how cells splice and divides them and eventually forming a life form has been a wondrous experience for me. That is why in mine lines animation I treated the lines as embodiment of cells thus including the splice divide and form in the traits. As for doodles was because one day I happened to chance upon mine daughter doodling on a paper and I realised how free she makes her strokes without any restriction or any hesitation. The strokes were bold and free. It was as if the strokes are like wild horses galloping in the plains. As for Thai culture it was largely due to fact mine wife introduction and exposure her culture to me. That’s why during mine past animation I have always brought in bits of traits on Thai culture that includes its traditional music or some Thai styles of artworks. The first time I combined these three things and form an animation was during the year which I did mine animation seminar called “dream of lines”. Thus I plan to take these three elements and incorporate them in mine fyp and develop them further. In the “dream of lines” I mostly use white lines and black background. There are several reasons to the need of these. One in black background the white lines tends to stand out and give audience a clear vision of the lines movements as the lines is the main character itself. Second reason was that I have mentioned before one of mine inspiration came from observing cells movement, and the black and white resembles one observing cell movements under the microscope lens. I often project mine state of mind to that of child so that I an play around the lines as because only when preserving the mind of the child one can discover many features in one thing itself. Just like handling a ball to a child, they are able to treat it alive and imagine the ball to be more than just a ball. However if the ball was to hand over to an adult, it becomes a logic mind set to them using the ball to limited features such as kick, bounce or throw. Maintaining a childlike heart is the essence to the project itself, as it will lead to many discoveries. What differs from the initial experiment on the animation seminar project to the final year project is that in the animation seminar project “dream of lines” there is less concentrated movements on the images itself and the lines movements are rough and coarse. But in this final year project I will hone the style further by refining the movements of the lines and including more movement in the image itself and also the “dream of lines tends not to correspond with the music temp itself. Thus for the final project “Ra bam yuk mai” I will concentrate more on the beats and rhythm of the music following them more closely and matching the movements with the beats of the music itself. In the animation seminar project itself the characters are mostly design to be more of a westernised or Chinese Asian style. Thus it does not blend it to the Thai traditional music itself. Having taken note of that I plan to keep the design of the characters more towards the Thai style art. |
