The development of this project was focused on creating a beam-column design aid for low levels, multi-storey buildings with educational values. Microsoft Excel, which is widely used computer software, was used as the working platform in the development of the design aid. Any users with the software installed on their computers will be able to run the design aid at ease without purchasing additional premium professional designing software. As compared to existing advanced and professional structural design tools available in the market, the design aid can serve as a reasonable and less complex alternative for users’ utilizations as well as bringing educational values to less experienced users such as students or junior civil or structural engineers. This report documented the development of the design aid as well as the improvements and additional features made with respect to the design tool created from previous year project. With the ability to design steel columns for multi-storey buildings, the design aid brought more options and dimensions for users to consider and utilize during the design process. The author hopes that the development of the design aid can benefit more people in the civil industry as well as creates a good basis of foundation for further improvements to be made by civil engineers or students in the future for similar areas of structural design tools.
