Description
Summary:This project studies bus systems with periodic boundary conditions using a modified Nagel-Schreckenberg (NaSch) Cellular Automata (CA) simulation model. We propose a self-organising method to control speed of the buses using passenger occupancy information of buses and bus stops. The study was done with road information from the campus of Nanyang Technological University (NTU). The simulation results shows uniform headway of buses, short waiting time of passengers and small variation of waiting time. The model is robust to very strong bunching influence, and recovers from a deliberate jam without human interference. The model is also applicable to other similar bus systems without re-training its parameters.
