Summary: | The objective of the Final Year Project is to improve on and test out a mathematical model, the NEWRI HFM which emulates flow through rapid filtration system. An improvement to the calculation of clogging head loss is made as the previous equation used is a clean bed equation which will become invalid when particle accumulation becomes significant. The NEWRI HFM is used to gauge its predictive capability by comparing predicted results against published experimental data. Understanding head loss development is important in the design and operation granular filtration systems. The focus of the discussion will be on head loss development during a filtration run. |
