Summary:Generally, components that do not significantly contribute to resisting lateral or vertical loads are categorized as non-structural components. Before 1970s, only structural components of buildings such as beams and columns are designed to against earthquake. However, it is found in several seismic events that non-structural components contributed to significant economy losses. Therefore, there is a growing concern over the damage estimation of non-structural components in recent years. This report mainly focuses on the development of empirical fragility curves for nonstructural components with a database collected from literature. 428 entries encompassing 12 earthquakes, mainly the 1994 Northridge earthquake, different kinds of elements like damage levels, building types and structural types and the location of earthquakes have been examined.
