Summary: | The economic strategy to go global started as early as 1986 and many incentives were
introduced by the government to encourage Singapore entrepreneurs to go abroad and
help Singapore develop an external economy.
Recently, the main focus of the Singapore government is China, a country that
has originally practised a closed-door policy but has now opened up to accept foreign
investments.
This project examines the increasing trend of Singapore investment in China and
provides a guide to potential entrepreneurs in launching a new venture in China. We
look at some critical areas that entrepreneurs may face, discuss the difficulties
encountered and suggest possible solutions to the problems.
A newspaper survey was done to examine the profile of Singapore investors in
China and the literature review provided the basis of our study on the problems
encountered by investors in China. Finally, interviews were conducted to substantiate
findings from the literature review.
We concluded that, even though Singapore investors might face difficulties in the
process of trying to establish themselves in China, they would have to be flexible enough
to adjust to the economic conditions and 'rules' of China. Both the Singaporean and
Chinese governments are giving assistance to investors in many aspects to improve the
investment environment in China. Hence, in the long run, such problems would
eventually be solved. |
