Investment is promoted, whether local or foreign and enterprise encouraged, not just to do business in Singapore but with the rest of the world as well. The growing importance of entrepreneurship in Singapore has spurred interest in the study of the topic. The main aim of this project is to trace the success and failure factors of local inventor - entrepreneurs. This report also covers the problems faced by these entrepreneurs and the reasons for inventors from the multi-national corporations for not venturing out. The literature review examines innovation, start-up factors, success and environmental factors and difficulties faced in the start-up phase and also in the course of the operation. The study reveals that the major start-up reasons of the respondents include being able to see own ideas through fruition and the opportunity to use own knowledge and experience. A wide network of contacts and having creative technical inclination plays a part in determining the success of a company. The results also show that a lack of cash and inability to keep the company under control can lead to failure.
