Using the LED lightings as the transmitters, we can have the advantages of a secure connection as light cannot penetrate walls and the other reason is the easy accessible of the cheap LED lighting as compared to conventional lightings. In this report, LED lightning is used not only for illumination purposes but also for the transfer of data for short distances. This is made possible due to the fast switching capabilities of LED lighting that are not detectable by the human eyes but can be detected by either a photodiode or the smartphone camera. In this report, we will show the sending of an ASCII characters through the LED and then decode the transmitted signals using the MATLAB software. Finally, we make use of the smartphone as the receiver to decode the transmitted signal. By using the rolling shutter effect of the CMOS camera present in smartphone, we can achieve data rate more than the camera frame rate.
