Summary: | The demand for Home Automation System has been growing over the past two decades. However, the need for customisation and costly installation have prevent users from enjoying the convenience of such system. This project aims to cover the design and implementation of a Smart Home Automation System (SHAS) with key feature on remote switching of lightings/fans. The proposed SHAS was implemented using a Raspberry Pi Model B+ Microcontroller due to its wide range of features such as Ethernet, USB and General-purpose input/output (GPIO) pins that are available on the microcontroller at a reasonable low cost. It also comes with a decent computing power which allows multitasking capabilities. The project team focused on designing a mobile control for the SHAS. Native App and Mobile Web App were reviewed to understand the possibilities for the project. Taking into consideration on the different type of application development platform used in developing Native App, the team explore into developing a web based application that is based on programming language such as HyperText Markup Language (HTML), JavaScript, PHP: HyperText Processor (PHP) and Cascading Style Sheet (CSS). The software developed is integrated to the hardware setup development by Mr. Lim Zhi Lun (Project no. A2043-141). In addition, the project team had also enhanced the project by developing features like timer controlled, system authentication, shutdown/reboot controls and home security. the ultimate goal is to build a cost effective and safe SHAS for the consumers. |
